"What course/ certification should I do?"

 I am a strong believer in continuous learning..

This year, I am getting my courses and mentor coaching for renewing my ACC..

 But, there are times when courses and certifications are helpful and there are times when they are not

When are courses and certifications helpful?

Before you embark on doing a formal certification or course, check what your motivation is. If it is to genuinely learn a particular skill, then, by all means, invest in that.

And before you enroll in an expensive course, do test runs through some free courses first

Experience over Education

I am part of INSEAD's MBA Career Coaching as well as SMU's postgrad career workshops panel. I also do workshops for other Institutes of Higher Learning. Some of these courses cost 6 figures plus there is opportunity cost of not working.

Even with the immersive learning with world-renowned institutions, making huge career pivots becomes very difficult. The ROI of these programs comes in quality of work over the next decade instead of in the job search immediately.

Between 2 candidates, if one has education in a specific field and the other has experience in it, companies tend to prefer the latter candidate.

Before you dive into another course, ask yourself, "Will this actually bring value to my job search?"

Sometimes, the time spent on a new certification could be better spent networking, updating your resume, or honing in on job-specific projects.

 Invest your time, energy, and money in things that bring direct value. It is all about prioritization!
